The hundreds of books listed in the pdf document are the books that were owned and read by my late husband.  Listed in the order in which they were read, the books have become a strange and fascinating testament to his identity and existence.

 

Only one book is missing - a Penguin edition of Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry. He never went anywhere without a book to read so it seemed only fitting that this, his favourite book, should accompany him on his final journey.  

 

The trajectory of a life, the search for understanding and the quest for wisdom, the intellectual and literary influences, the pleasures of the text and the tunnels of escape, are all drawn here through the simple mechanism of a list.
